As a freshman at Western HighSchool, Dad Miller was the home course for the Golf team, ThePioneers. The center is free to youths8-17 years old, and is open 12 hours a day. The education centerspecializes in math, language arts, science, tutoring and characterdevelopment programs. Well maintained and price friendly, DadMiller Golf Course has become a popular destination for players ofall ages and abilities. The course features a lake, with lovelytrees surrounding the fairways, and is easily walked. The newpractice center is home to the Anaheim Golf Academy and offerschipping green and a night-lighted driving range. The coursehosted two Western Opens during a time when it was considered amajor golf tournament. The first, played in 1936, was won by RalphGuldahl. During the second Western Open played here in 1951, GeorgeFazio shot a 63 and broke the course record of 64 that was held byGene Sarazen and Ralph Guldahl. That year, the 16th hole got itsnickname the "Hole of Grief" when Sam Snead lost his chance to winthe Open after hitting his tee shot into Spencer Creek.
